Division Director, United States Ministries

An experienced manager is needed, who can bring Gospel outreach ministry to audiences in the United States by directing the development, production, implementation, and distribution of United States Ministries (USM) programs. This involves reaching targeted populations by surveying spiritual needs of the unchurched audience and by measuring the performance of resulting programming, as well as providing churches with outreach programming and training applications for distribution and use via conventional and new media.

Duties include serving as division leader by developing vision and subsequent short and long-range ministry program plans; setting goals and measurable objectives, providing feedback, and requiring accountability; understanding the relationship between ministry and fundraising, and supporting fundraising efforts through regular sharing of ministry success stories; reviewing changing demographics and recommending target audiences for ministry programs; staying current on media trends; measuring viewer impact of programs, and working to keep programs within budget. The Director will serve as an integral part of the senior LHM leadership team, and will interact with all LHM divisions, the Board of Governors, Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, Lutheran Church-Canada, and other Lutheran organizations. Some travel is required.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in the area of mass communication, marketing, education, theology, or business. Advanced degree preferred.
  • At least 5 years of experience in a senior management role with a large, diverse staff.
  • Creative vision to develop effective new programs, ability to develop strategic mission plans, and the ability to put ideas and plans into practical action.
  • Acts in a manner consistent with Christian principles, and is a member in good standing of a Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod or Lutheran Church-Canada congregation.
  • Mass media programming background with experience in direct marketing, radio, TV, and Internet technology preferred.

Director, Ministry Advancement

An experienced manager and fundraiser is needed for the Lutheran Hour Ministries (LHM) leadership team. This individual will serve as the most senior development officer and also oversee the functions of corporate communications and donor relations. The Director's primary objective is to build, over time, an advancement program that will ensure LHM's long-term success and institutional integrity.

Duties involve leading the Ministries Advancement Division in raising funds to support LHM worldwide Gospel proclamation by setting clear and measurable goals, providing proper training and motivating staff, leading by example, evaluating campaign effectiveness, requiring accountability, providing regular feedback to the organization, and charting new courses of action when needed. The Director will work closely with the Executive Director, other Division Directors, and Board of Governors in formulating and developing sound ministry advancement policies, and will ensure the development of an effective communications and donor relations plan by overseeing a corporate communications effort to enhance the positive image of the organization.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree and professional certification desirable.
  • Previous experience as a senior development/advancement officer.
  • At least 10 years of professional development experience in progressively responsible positions.
  • Acts in a manner consistent with Christian principles, and is a member in good standing of a Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod or Lutheran Church-Canada congregation.
  • Demonstrated ability to instill a spirit of teamwork and enthusiasm in staff.
  • Excellent writing and speaking skills, and ability to articulate and to nurture the organization's Vision and Mission.
  • Leadership characteristics and a strong, effective executive presence.
  • Flexibility in hours and ability to travel.

Manager, Global Impact Program

A development professional with a proven track record of fundraising success is needed to assist the Director, International Ministries in building and managing the International Ministry Partnership program (Global Impact) between LHM and congregations/groups/individuals who wish to impact global outreach. The primary responsibilities are to identify, cultivate, solicit, close and maintain relationships with congregations, groups and individuals who desire to commit to outreach ministry involving LHM's international ministry centers, supporting those centers with prayer, volunteerism and financial gifts. Additionally, the manager identifies major donors within participating congregations and groups to the Ministry Advancement Officer responsible for planned and major gifts in the related geographic area. The manager also works directly with Donor Communications, Ministry Catalyst staff and Ministry Advancement staff to coordinate and communicate program details.

Qualifications:

  1. A four-year college degree
  2. MS-Office skills and great writing skills
  3. Leadership experience in team planning with staff and outside vendors
  4. Marketing background, high degree of empathy, superior listening skills
  5. Familiarity with Christian stewardship, charitable giving
  6. Willingness to travel extensively
  7. Ability/desire to speak in front of groups
  8. Member of the LCMS preferred
  9. Commitment to continuing education and training
  10. Well organized, with ability to administer programs and plans

Coordinator, Global Impact Volunteer Teams
Part Time - up to 19 hours per week

The Coordinator will assist the Director of International Ministries in managing the recruitment, promotion, logistics, and customer service for Global Impact Volunteer teams. The primary responsibilities are to provide comprehensive administration of the Global Impact Volunteer team program delivery, including logistics, planning, training, follow-up, communication with potential participants, preparation of recruitment and orientation materials, and managing volunteer applications, required documentation, and travel arrangements.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree, preferred
  • Experience in working with volunteers
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Well versed in primary computer applications (ex. Word, Excel, and Outlook)
  • Very detail oriented
  • Ability to expertly handle varied duties simultaneously while maintaining order and meeting deadlines
  • Ability to effectively work with outside departments as well as international ministry centers, remembering differences in culture
  • A Christian servant's heart. One who will serve with joy and will lead other people to serve with joy, as well.
