One Volunteer's Extraordinary Mission Highlighted on Convention Video Aug. 11, 2008 At this year's convention, the inspirational story of how one Lutheran Hour Ministries volunteer is risking much to bring hope to his suffering neighbors was shared with convention-goers. Royce Makonye is a schoolteacher from the mining town of Kwekwe, Zimbabwe. Even though he earns a relatively decent salary, his family can only afford to eat porridge at every meal. This is the sad reality for the many Zimbabweans who have not fled the country for their own political and economic survival. Clearly this is a nation in need of hope rooted in the Gospel. In the summer of 2007, while on vacation in South Africa, Makonye came in contact with LHM-South Africa staff while attending a church service in Johannesburg.
